Keyboard and Mouse Changes

Full details of KEDIT's Windows-style CUA interface and its text mode-compatible Classic interface are given in User's Guide Chapter 4, ``Keyboard and Mouse''. This chapter discusses the differences between the two interfaces.

Classic and CUA Keyboard Differences

With the CUA interface, which is the default, the behavior of many keys has changed to match Windows' conventions. No keyboard functionality has been lost, however; for each key with new behavior, the old behavior has been moved to a different key.

With the Classic interface, all keys behave as they did in text mode KEDIT 5.0.

The Options Interface menu item leads to a dialog box that you can use to choose between the CUA and Classic interfaces. For the CUA interface, you can also use this dialog box to adjust some of KEDIT's keyboard and mouse behavior.

The most noticeable keys with changed behavior in the CUA interface are the Enter key and the Home key:

Classic and CUA Mouse Comparison

Since selections are not available in the text mode-compatible Classic interface, all blocks marked with the mouse in the Classic interface are persistent blocks. They can be marked with the same mouse actions used in text mode KEDIT.

In the Windows-style CUA interface, all blocks marked with the mouse are selections, but you can change this default behavior via the Options Interface dialog box. Also, you can convert a selection to a persistent block by using the Edit Make Persistent menu item, which is also available on the menu displayed when you click mouse button 2.
